The Collaboration Begins

Image
This week has been interesting. It was the first week of our collaboration project where we are placed into teams to create an object out of wood together. We met as a team on Wednesday to discuss our possible designs, and we came to a few conclusions. 1.) That we wanted to create something for the school 2.) That we want to make something that can be used in some way, and not just decorative. At the end of our meeting we decided that we would all brainstorm over the few days before class to each come up with a couple of designs that we could all look at and decide on together. I was thinking that we could make something multi-purpose, as in something along the lines of those shelving units that can also be pulled down into a table and back again to save space, or a chair/table combo. We're meeting this week so hopefully I'll have more of an update in the next post.

The Final Product

Alrighty, so here we are. We're ready to print the final version of our table! Just so you have a recap on what we've done so far, we've taken several circles and extruded or piped them to make both the top and the bottom segments of our table, as well as created a custom shape using rhino and imported it into grasshopper for the supports. Our render went smoothly as could be hoped, having not used grasshopper to this extent before, but I was really happy with the final outcome of the mid century modern look that I was going for! Unfortunately I forgot to take process photos of the table being printed and my failed attempts, but on our 3rd try we were able to fine tune the printer settings to accommodate the wood PLA that I decided to use for this product! Over all, I'm very happy with the final product that was achieved with this exercise, and will likely be doing more furniture in the future (hopefully in full scale).
